The Future of the Transatlantic Bond Post US Elections
On November 5th, the United States will hold a pivotal presidential election, with global attention focused on who will lead the country for the next four years. With President Biden set to depart, a new leader is guaranteed to step into the White House. What could this change mean for America and the world at large? How might Kamala Harris or Donald Trump approach critical geopolitical issues like the situations in Ukraine, the Middle East, and Taiwan? The stakes are high, and the election’s outcome could bring shifts in U.S. foreign policy that reverberate across continents.
Luckily, Jonge Atlantici will help you make sense of the upcoming events. On November 20th, join us for an unique event exploring the global impact of the 2024 US presidential election. The program will kick off with a reflection on the election campaign itself, Joost Kramer, U.S. Election Governance expert, will join us to explain what happened on the 5th of november. Which issues were influential in forming voter’s decisison-making? Additionally, he recently wrote the book ‘Hoe de Amerikaanse presidentsverkiezingen écht werken’ (How the U.S. elections really work). Next to that, Joost Kramer regularly appears in media to shed his light on the workings of the complicated U.S. election process.
This will then be followed by an expert panel, including Paul Verhagen, Senior Fellow (The Hague Centre for Strategic Studies), Professor Roberta Haar, an expert in foreign policy and transatlantic relations (Maastricht University), and Tanja Röling, Deputy Director for the Western Hemisphere (Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs). Together, they will delve into how this election reshapes the Transatlantic bond and alliances worldwide.
