25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325
Navigating 1325 in a New Security Reality conference
This year marks the 25th anniversary of UN Security Council Resolution 1325, which calls for greater participation of women in peace and security processes, the prevention of violence against women, and the protection of women and girls in conflict and post-conflict settings. Resolution 1325 has become a cornerstone of international and transatlantic cooperation in the field of peace and security, inspiring global, regional, and cross-border initiatives to make peace processes more inclusive and sustainable.
To mark this milestone, the Atlantische Commissie was present at the conference Navigating 1325 in a New Security Reality last week, which brought together policymakers, diplomats, military leaders, and civil society representatives. During the conference, participants reflected on 25 years of the Women, Peace & Security agenda and explored ways to strengthen it in an increasingly complex global security environment. The message was clear: lasting peace and security cannot be achieved if half of the world’s population is overlooked. To build sustainable peace, women’s protection and participation are not optional; they are essential.
