On Monday July 9th, the Netherlands Atlantic Youth and Jong Defensie organize a special meeting with General Denis Mercier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation at NATO at the residence of the Ambassador of France. The theme of this event will be:
“Improving Today, Shaping Tomorrow, Bridging the Two”
The current strategic security environment is turbulent as instability in the world increases. This presents NATO with many challenges and calls for a strong and future-oriented alliance with member states cooperating in good coordination. As one of the two of NATO’s Strategic Commands, Allied Command Transformation (ACT) in Norfolk, VA, USA is tasked with the development and transformation of the Alliance to ensure future challenges are met through innovation and training.
On Monday, July 9th General Denis Mercier, Supreme Allied Commander Transformation (SACT) and one of the highest-ranking military officers at NATO, will visit the Netherlands prior to the NATO Summit that week. He will share his vision on NATO’s future and needs with young people during a special meeting at the Residence of the French Ambassador, organized by Jonge Atlantici and Jong Defensie. The event will be moderated by Karlijn Jans, strategic analyst at The Hague Center for Strategic Studies.
You will have the chance to engage with SACT in person and ask your questions. What will be the most important points during the Summit? What is the current shape of the Alliance, and how is it restructuring itself to adapt to the changing environment? What kind of innovation is NATO doing? And what will this mean for young people in NATO countries? You can find a program of this event here. Read the report of this unique event.
