From The Hague to Ankara: NATO and The Future of Euro-Transatlantic Security
A Conversation with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska
December 12, 2025
09:00 – 11:00
At the NATO Summit in The Hague, Allies committed to higher defence investment, stronger deterrence, and continued support for Ukraine. On both sides of the Atlantic, there’s a shared hope to bring the war to an end – a ‘Coalition of the Willing’ showing serious commitment to make a future contribution to peace achievable. New sanctions from Washington and Brussels are designed to tighten the screws on Moscow. Still, Europe will have to step up and take on more responsibility in the years ahead, making fairer burden-sharing within NATO a key challenge for the future. Other serious challenges remain. Drone incidents have tested NATO’s defences and cyberattacks and disinformation are putting pressure on our democracies and testing the unity of the transatlantic community. Meanwhile, the Western Balkans region remains fragmented along ethnic lines. And, of course, Russia’s war in Ukraine continues unabated, and poses existential challenges to the Alliance, asking Allies to provide sustained support to Ukraine in its efforts to push back on hostile forces.
On 12 December, NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska will join us for an in-depth discussion on these evolving challenges, en route from The Hague to the NATO Summit in Ankara in 2026. She will engage with policy experts, think tankers, and students working on NATO and international security, and reflect on prior experience as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of North Macedonia during its NATO accession and EU integration process.
This event will be held in English.
