Johan de Witt Conference

On 31 August, on the eve of the World Port Days in Rotterdam, the Netherlands Atlantic Association, the Pugno Pro Patria in Mare Foundation and the Alumni Association of the Royal Navy Institute (KIM) jointly organized the Johan de Witt Conference 2017. The theme of this year’s conference was: Russia’s Maritime Ambitions.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization has dominated the Atlantic waters for decades. However, in the last 10 years Allies have neglected the maritime domain, and Russia has seized this opportunity to expand its maritime force. This show of power is a direct threat to free world trade and maritime security in the waters around Europe. During the Johan de Witt Conference 2017 Russia’s actions and underlying objectives were interpreted, and the consequences for European navies were expolored.

A report of the conference will be published here shortly.
