Seminar: Brexit and European Defence

On Tuesday, 21 March, the Netherlands Atlantic Association organized a program in Press Centre 'Nieuwspoort in The Hague on "Brexit and European Defence (at last): Will Brexit work and will a European Defence without Britain work?" Four speakers addressed these issues from different viewpoints (business/politics/defence and security/transatlantic).

Moderator:

Robert van de Roer (diplomatic expert)

A (video) report of the seminar will be published here shortly.

In her Lancaster House speech in January Prime Minister Theresa May discussed the conditions of a ‘Brexit’. In her speech she also discussed the future relations between the UK and the EU in the field of defence and security. It is commonly acknowledged that one of the UK’s strongest elements in the UK-EU negotiations regards her contribution to European security.

In this seminar questions were raised about the completion of the Brexit deal, if alternatives are feasible for a European Defence and if so, what they will possibly look like.
