What happened to Deng’s maxim ‘Tao Guang Yang Hui’? Explaining China’s increased assertiveness in East Asia
In the last couple of years (2014), China’s assertiveness in East Asia has steadily grown. According to Master’s student, Friso Stevens, this growth is partly the result of two domestic factors. Namely: the increased influence of the left, and domestic insecurities. Stevens predicts that China’s assertiveness will continue to persist.
