Transatlantic Sonic Diplomacy

During WWII, the American music industry became complicit with the war effort. After the   Allied victory, the European Recovery Program activated all channels of communication, including the medium of music, to tell European citizens about the value of freedom and the benefits of the Marshall Plan. According to Frank Mehring the Netherlands is a particularly interesting case regarding this form of American soft power.
