The Saudi-Iranian rivalry. An ominous zero-sum game for supremacy
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Islamic Republic of Iran are rivals in an unstable region. This rivalry constitutes a geopolitical struggle for political, economic and military supremacy and religious legitimacy. Simultaneously, developments such as the rise and assertiveness of Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, Iran’s regional relations and the role of the US and Russia, further destabilize the situation. This article analyses the rivalry between Saudi Arabia and Iran trough their strategic perspectives. The authors see a basis for war between the two countries.
