The role of cyber diplomacy in Dutch security policy. Long term and short term responses to coercive cyber operations

The current security environment is more and more characterized by cyberattacks between states. Some nations view cyberattacks as useful options for geopolitical powerplays as they do not constitute an act of war and they do not result in casualties. Because of this development, states are required to have a comprehensive defense and response system at the ready when they fall victim to such an attack. In this 2017 article Van Marissing looks at how the Netherlands is dealing with cyberwarfare and where the country could improve.
