Scenarios for Syria

Syria currently experiences one of the largest humanitarian crises in modern history due to seven years of civil war. Besides its humanitarian implications, the conflict constitutes a theatre in which foreign actors pursue their geopolitical objectives. According to Haya Douidri and Alex Krijger, Syria’s future is determined by four major powers: Russia, Iran, Turkey, and the United States. At the same time, it is becoming increasingly clear that the population of Syria has no influence in solving the conflict.
