‘Pulling the Strings’ within the General Assembly
By reentering the African continent, Russia is making a clear assertation that it continues to be a great power. By reengaging in sub-Saharan Africa, Russia seeks not only new contracts and markets, but according to Marjolein van Uden it actively tries to secure the support of these ‘developing’ countries in order to create a larger bloc within multilateral institutions, such as the United Nations.
