NATO navies face new threats
Defence budgets are rising among NATO members. Especially, the United States encourage an even faster arms build-up of naval forces in particular. Nevertheless, most European countries are still recovering from defence budget cuts over the past decades. Joris Janssen Lok highlights the importance of new ships and submarines for NATO members at a time when they are increasingly called upon. This would enable NATO to respond better to external threats from the East in particular.
