In essence, the transatlantic relationship between the U.S. and Europe is strong. As Chantal de Jonge Oudraat and Michael E. Brown point out, the transatlantic value system and strategic interests remain uniform. Yet, internal problems on both sides of the Atlantic and Europe’s reluctance to comply with NATO’s 2%-rule may prove to be growing obstacles.
