Mitt Romney’s power of sympathy
Using the philosophy of Uncle Tom’s Cabin writer Harriet Beecher Stowe, Eduard van de Bilt argues that empathy is of enormous importance in the American election. Van de Bilt states that voters want their representatives to be ‘one of them’ so their pain and sorrow is felt. Moreover, Van de Bilt mentions that Mitt Romney is empathetically ‘severely handicapped’ – therefore he expects Obama to win.
