Finland’s changed geopolitical position
Finland’s NATO membership will mark a major geopolitical change in the Baltic Sea and the Arctic. Markku Kangaspuro (University of Helsinki) analyzes Finland’s position in NATO and the perhaps equally important bilateral Defense Cooperation Agreement between Finland and the US. He warns that the enormous financial and human resources that will be used to build op a security system based on deterrence are also needed to combat climate change.
