Finally grown-up?
As the Germans fear to be on the wrong side of history (again), Germany has been relatively reluctant to take an active military role in international conflicts. Since the emergence of ISIS, however, something has changed. Namely: ISIS does not wish to negotiate, let alone: compromise. On the contrary, the Islamic State murders unarmed and innocent citizens. As German President Gauck said: “he who fails to act bears responsibility, too”. Therefore, Germany has chosen to be actively engaged militarily.
