Sloan reflects on transatlantic relations after Afghanistan. As the United States and its NATO partners reduce their military roles in Afghanistan, economic conditions throughout the alliance are forcing governments to reduce discretionary spending. For most of them, this has entailed further cuts in military budgets, and therefore in forces available for use by NATO.
