Fifty years of nuclear planning

How it started

This article looks back on the origins of the Nuclear Planning Group (NPG), which was created in 1967. The NPG was an important step in involving the members of NATO with nuclear matters. The article follows the history of the NPG as described in NATO’s new book, compiled by NATO’s Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg. The article ends with personal reflections by Wim van Eekelen, on the years following the creation of the NPG.
