Europe’s uncomfortable position
As the European Union largely lacks natural gas reserves, it is forced to look outward for its energy supply. Wishing to diminish its dependence on one supplier, the EU seeks to diversify its energy supply. One project that aims to diversify Europe’s supply is the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC). Yet, since the non-European states that are involved in the project do not match the political landscape of the EU, Vanand Meliksetian argues that Europe would better invest in alternatives.
