European missile defense. A business case for transatlantic burden sharing

In this Rejoinder to ‘Ballistic missile defence. NATO’s European Phased Adaptive Approach’ by James Fergusson in Atlantisch Perspectief no. 4, 2013, Jeroen de Jonge addresses four important elements which are missing in the mainly technological approach by Fergusson. Furthermore, De Jonge argues a business case for transatlantic burden sharing. The investment burden should be shared evenly among the European nations that would all be protected by NATO Ballistic Missile Defense. That would require some stark political choices, but it is definitively worth pursuing, De Jonge states.
