Big plus small plus small. The future of European defense integration

According to van Hooft, new threats to the east and the south of Europe (Russia and the Middle East) combined with the uncertainty surrounding America’s commitment to NATO have necessitated better central European integration of defense. Van Hooft argues that the larger states like Germany and France should form the core of a European army and that smaller states integrate their armed forces into these cores.
