Baltic challenges for NATO’s VJTF

Central to the Welsh NATO summit was the decision to set up a new spearhead force: the Very High Readiness Joint Task Force (VTJF). Although this novel task force does increase NATO’s capacities, credible deterrence requires a proper doctrine and the right decision-making culture as well. Therefore, Jens Ringmose and Sten Rynning opt for the following: a doctrine of deterrence by punishment and a more resolved form of communication.
