A reborn Alliance in a troubled world? NATO after Wales

As Margriet Drent and Dick Zandee point out: Putin has brought NATO back to its core business. The latest NATO summit that took place in Wales, therefore saw a recommitment to the Alliance’s article 5. Still, as Drent and Zandee argue, the style of warfare has changed. Instead of a full-scale attack, NATO can rather expect ambiguous and hybrid warfare. Such types of warfare are generally seen as under the ‘article 5-threshold’. Ambiguous and hybrid warfare therefore pose a new challenge towards the Alliance.
